WORKBOOK PROCESS FOR FINDING A FIGURE

This piece was part of an online workshop with Pauline Agnew.

My intent with this painting was to explore ways of being more free in my process and to give myself the freedom to play.

The positives I got from this were that I liked working with charcoal and ink in the early stages.

Negatives were that I didn't engage with the subject matter, which was taken from the course, and felt uncomfortable using a different style of laying down paint. The canvas pad was gesso primed but had a rough texture and didn't suit the way I like to work.

On reflection, I could have explored the subject first with play - loose drawings in different media may have helped me engage with the emotion.

I have included some of my workbook pages showing the process and another workshop process, painting over an old art work and allowing a figure to emerge. I liked this process of discovery but was not happy with the final image.
